24-Hour Economy set to kick off July 2
Ghana's government has confirmed that Wednesday, July 2, 2025, will mark the formal beginning of its eagerly awaited 24-hour economic program.
The statement was made by Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor on the policy, on Thursday, June 26, when the completed policy paper was presented to the Speaker of Parliament.
The policy is based on three key pillars, according to Tanoh, who emphasized the government's readiness to carry out the program: upgrading supply chain and market systems, reforming manufacturing, and boosting human resources.
“These foundational anchors are supported by eight strategic sub-programmes,” he said.
Among the sub-programmes highlighted were:
In order to prepare young Ghanaians for new employment opportunities, the strategy incorporates digital skills training into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum.
The "Show Ghana" campaign will also highlight the nation's cultural treasures in an effort to increase tourism and bring in foreign exchange.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin responded to the presentation by applauding the initiative but advising the government to seek legislative support in order to ensure the policy's sustainability.
He suggested that the 24-hour Economy Secretariat work with legislators to draft legislation that would formalize the program and guarantee its continuation even in the event of political leadership changes.
The debut on July 2 will be a significant milestone in what the government refers to as a daring new age of Ghana's economic transformation.
