Federal Government hands over houses to 1994 Super Eagles heroes after 31 years

After three decades, the Federal Government has finally delivered on its pledge to provide housing to the 1994 Super Eagles team, which won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

The ministry revealed this in a statement that was uploaded to its website on Wednesday.

An allocation letter for an Abuja home was given to one of the recipients, former striker Efan Ekoku.
He was represented at the brief ceremony by his niece, Lisa Jenifer Nwagbogun.

The Director and Head of Department, Public Building and Housing Development, Pemi Temitope, presented the letter on behalf of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Temitope explained the action as part of the government's effort to honor the team's heroic contribution, which three decades ago gave honor to the country.
"The Federal Government and the Ministry of Housing have my sincere gratitude for keeping this long-standing promise to my uncle," Nwagbogun stated. Seeing such dedication to honesty and execution is incredibly encouraging.

"This gesture restores faith in the value of keeping public promises while also honoring Mr. Efan Ekoku's service."
Recall that 28 years after the 1994 housing pledge was first made, in 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari gave his approval for its implementation.

Members of the team in different states are being assigned housing units, while some, like Ekoku, are getting theirs in Abuja.
