Pastor accused of withdrawing cash from dead friend’s account faces court
A 38-year-old pastor, Wisdom Kwame Adu, alias Agya, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000 with two sureties—one of which must be justified with landed property—for allegedly stealing from his deceased friend.
Accused of stealing GH¢27,000, an ATM card, and a Range Rover, Adu entered a not guilty plea. He is charged with taking out money from the deceased's ATM card between June 8 and June 10, 2025.
He must reappear on July 14, 2025, under the court's order.
The complainant, Mr. Samuel Awuku Darko, is the older brother of the dead, Emmanuel Offei, who lived in Akropong Akuapem, according to ASP Issah Achiburi.
The deceased's friend Adu resides in Korleyman, close to Medea.
Offei was admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching facility in April, but he voluntarily left the facility on April 30, 2025.
According to reports, Adu and Offei traveled to Kumasi for prayers on May 26. On June 5, Offei passed away on church property, and Adu notified his family of his death.
After giving the complainant the deceased's phone, Adu concealed Offei's Ecobank ATM card and neglected to return the unregistered Range Rover.
Between June 8 and 10, several ATM withdrawals totalling GH¢27,000 were linked to locations in Kumasi and Pokuase-Amasaman.
After getting transaction notifications, the complainant informed the CID Headquarters about the issue.
When police searched Adu's rented home on June 17, they found GH¢35,356 and £40. This led to Adu's detention.
The body of the deceased is being kept in a private mortuary in Tinkong while an autopsy is conducted.
